Martin Smith

The Australian cellist Martin Smith began Cello at the age of 8, studying with Uzi Wiesel in Sydney and is currently studying with Natalia Gutman in Florence, Italy.
Martin has appeared as orchestral soloist and recitalist throughout Australia, Europe and North America with recent performances including appearances with the Plymouth Symphony, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lyon, and a tour of Denmark with the Esbjerg Ensemble. He has appeared in concert with such artists as Leon Fleisher and Kolja Blacher and has given broadcasts for BBC3, Danish Radio, Deutsche Rundfunk Koln and ABC-FM. Recently, Martin performed recitals in Holland and Germany, including the Concertgebouw [Amsterdam] and Konzerthaus [Berlin], a tour of Japan and China as soloist with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lyon as part of the Olympic Arts Festival, a recording for MDR Radio [Leipzig] of works by Giacinto Scelsci, and a tour of Japan and Indonesia performing chamber music with Midori, as part of the International Community Engagement Program.
